May 19, 2005 Pioneer students cut a rug at spring dance
Inside, students of all ages jumped around dancing, laughing and having an all-around good time.
Thanks to the Family Career and Community Leaders of America from Unioto High School, Pioneer students enjoyed their Spring Dance complete with a DJ and refreshments.
"It's nice to do something different," said Nancy Schaal, the FCCLA advisor. The group was brainstorming community service ideas when they decided to help with the dance, Schaal said. She hopes they will be able to make it a yearly event.
The Unioto students enjoyed the dance as much as the Pioneer students, Schaal said
"We just thought it would be a nice idea," said Santana Lurty, a freshman at Unioto. "Things like this don't always get to happen for them."
The group, a satellite program of Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center, performs all types of community service including an Easter egg hunt for first-graders, a canned food drive and a tsunami relief collection, said group president Toria Leslie.
The students enjoy the hands-on participation of community service.
